Julio Olivo denounces the death threats of a member of New Ideas | News from El Salvador

The collegiate body has already denounced, in an official statement on February 1, that several magistrates have received death threats

“I am threatened with death,” Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) Judge Julio Olivo told a news conference yesterday.

According to the magistrate, he has already submitted the complaint to the General Prosecutor’s Office (FGR) and the National Civil Police (PNC), at the same time confirming that there is already an inspector assigned to the case.

In statements, Olivo assured that the person who threatened him is a member of the New Ideas party and also said that he has already been identified, but that no action has been taken yet.

Olivo called on the PNC and the Public Prosecutor’s Office to play their part and act in the case, and called on the national and international community to intervene immediately.

“That (the United Nations) (UN) realizes what is happening,” the magistrate said.

On February 1, in an official statement, the EST already reported that several magistrates of the collegiate body had been threatened, however, on that occasion it was not specified who or who was responsible for the threats.

In issue 5 of the statement issued by the TSE earlier this month, the institution called on the UN, the European Union (EU) and the Organization of American States (OAS) to conduct election observation missions in the country in order to prevent and report any act. of political violence that could occur.

On that occasion, the presiding magistrate of EST, Dora Esmeralda Barahona, stated that she did not know that other magistrates had been victims of the threats and that she only knew about the case of magistrate Olivo.
