The appointment, which was announced through the official website of the Biden-Harris transition team, was made official on January 8.
Born in Colombia and raised in New York, González graduated from Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service and served as a volunteer with the Peace Corps in Guatemala, the statement said.

In terms of experience in senior positions, González served in the Obama-Biden administration as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs and in the White House as Special Adviser to Vice President Biden.
Also in 2017 González was appointed by Senator Chuck Schumer (Senate Democratic head) to serve as a commissioner on the Western Hemisphere Two-tier Drug Policy Committee, and represented the Biden campaign in the Unity Task Force Biden-Sanders about immigration.
González currently lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife and son.
National Security Council
That same January 8, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris introduced the team to the White House National Security Council (NCS), which consists of more than 20 advisers (including Juan González).
The fundamental task of this council is to advise the president in the field of national security and foreign policy.
Regarding the NCS appointments, Joe Biden said, “The National Security Council plays a fundamental role to keep our country safe. These highly experienced and crisis-tested officials will work tirelessly to protect the American people and restore America’s leadership in the world. “
