Santo Domingo, RD.
Former Major League Baseball player José Rijo explained that he has owned crocodiles confiscated by the environmental lawyer on his San Cristóbal farm for more than 20 years.
The special environmental prosecutor on Thursday robbed a property of the former player José Rijo, where he saved three crocodiles that he owned irregularly and in deplorable conditions.
The expelotero had four crocodiles, but only the bones were found in one.
In a press release sent to the press, he indicated that the animals were given to them by various people because they did not have the conditions to take care of them.
He said he was willing to respond to any concerns in cases that required it.
José Rijo also explained that on one occasion he tried to communicate with staff at the National Zoo in Santo Domingo to deliver the animals.
He said the main purpose of having crocodiles was to ensure their conservation, as he has always been a lover of animals and the protection of flora and fauna due to his awareness of the importance of the environment.
The prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation that could lead to sanctions against Rijo, San Cristóbal Attorney General Rigoberto Santana del Rosario reported.
