Jones, Smith, Harris of Alabama lead 6 Tide AP All-Americans

Heisman Trophy finalists Mac Jones and DeVonta Smith were selected to The Associated Press All-America, leading a contingent of five Alabama players in the first offensive.

Najee Harris, Crimson Tide striker, striker Alex Leatherwood and center Landon Dickerson are also first team selections. Nr. 1 Alabama is the first team since 1980, when the AP All-America team began to contain two wide receivers and two backs, to place a quarterback, back and receiver on the first team.

Patrick Surtain II corner offers Crimson Tide six selections in the first team, most of them from the country. No. 4 Notre Dame, Alabama’s football opponent this weekend, has two first-team Americans on offensive guard Aaron Banks and defender Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

Florida’s Kyle Trask was named the second-team defender, and Heisman’s fellow finalist Trevor Lawrence of Clemson was the third-team defender of the AP teams launched Monday. Lawrence, probably the first pick in the next NFL draft, made AP All-America his first career career.

Clemson no. 2, which will face Ohio State no. 3 in the CFP semifinals on Friday night at the Sugar Bowl, had only one other player selected for the All-America teams: defender Travis Etienne made the first team as a total goal player. The senior was the All-American of the second team in the last two seasons.

Ohio State goalkeeper Wyatt Davis is the only player to repeat as an All-American first team after making it in 2020. Davis is one of two Buckeyes in the first team with defender Shaun Wade.
