Jon Stewart was urged to join Twitter on Thursday to defend renegade Reddit traders who turned Wall Street upside down this week.
The former host of the “Daily Show” has turned his back on critics of rogue traders who used WallStreetBets to send GameStop shares up, defying large hedge funds that cut the business.
“It simply came to our notice then. Redeemers don’t cheat, they join a party that Wall Street insiders have been enjoying for years ” Stewart wrote on Twitter.
“Don’t close them … maybe sue them for copyright infringement !!”
He added: “I haven’t learned anything since 2008.”
The comedian signed his first tweet “StewBeef”. His @jon_actual account quickly became verified and he was given a blue check.
The Colate Show, Stephen Colbert he replied to Stewart with, “Well, one thing has changed since 2008 – a friend of mine joined Twitter.”
In a follow-up tweet a few hours later, 58-year-old Stewart thanked fellow users for a warm welcome on the social media platform.
“I promise to use this app only sporadically and inefficiently” he joked.
