JoJo Siwa sheds light on her journey to become a growing LGBTQ icon.
“I still don’t know what I am. It’s like I want to know, “says Siwa in the latest issue of People magazine. “I like the weird. Technically, I’d say I’m pansexual, because that’s how I’ve always been all my life … just like, my man is my man. ”
Siwa, “Dancing Moms,” which boasts a social network that causes waves on the Internet with every update of her life, had fans speculating about her sexual identity earlier this year, finally confirming that she did part of the LGBTQ community a few days after I wore a shirt that said “Best gay cousin.”
In February, she credited her “super-inspiring” girlfriend Kylie with giving her the strength to go out, introducing her to Instagram fans shortly thereafter.
“I say I’m Ky-sexual,” Siwa, 17, told People about her girlfriend, who is a year older than her. “But, I don’t know, bisexual, pansexual, weird, lesbian, gay, straight. I always say gay because it just covers a bit or it’s weird because I think the keyword is great. ”
Siwa says the couple met on a cruise ship.
“I told him my whole word, which I say to everyone when he asks me about the story of my life. She says, “I could have done that on Google. I want to know your life story. You just told me about your career. I want to know about you. ‘
“And I thought, ‘Nobody asked me that before,'” she said.
Siwa, who says she has known her sexuality since she was a child, “never wanted to [my coming out] to be a big problem “, but he knew well that” I have many that could have disappeared because of my love life “.
She also made the mistake of reading what the internet had to say about her ad.
“I should never have done that. I thought all the comments would be nice and supportive and they weren’t, ”she says. “Many of them said, ‘I’ll never buy your merch again. My daughter never follows you again. I couldn’t sleep for three days. ”
But, she explains, she draws a line in the sand in the future: “I don’t want people to watch my videos or buy my merchandise if they don’t want to support not only me but the LGBTQ community.”
And despite online negativity, Siwa claims: “I have never received so much support from the world. I think it’s the first time I’ve felt so happy personally … I’m so proud to be me. ”
