The Director of the National Police (PN), Major General Edward Sánchez González, reported that a joint commission of members of the police and the Ministry of Defense had been set up to investigate incident that took place between an agent of the Directorate General for Traffic Safety and Land Transport (Digesett) and a general.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the National Palace, where González said that the commission was set up to deal with the situation and take action.
“The minister appoints the inspector general of the Armed Forces, we appoint the inspector general of the National Police for a joint commission, to realize the situation in which that event occurred and to issue the appropriate report in due time,” he said.
The initiative was taken as a result of an altercation that took place last Monday in the national district, where José Manuel Frías Rodríguez, who identified himself like the brigadier general, he scolded two Digesett agents for not “showing respect” when they checked on him.
Rodríguez had parked in a section of the DN bike path, an area where this action is prohibited.
In a video that went viral on social media, Rodríguez is seen asking the agents to pay attention because of his rank as a general.
“Be careful Amet, be careful Amet, but what is this?” Rodriguez warned one of the traffic officers.
The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, He called on the Dominican people to respect members of the National Police and Armed Forces, who “work more united than ever.”
Abinader stressed that, given that the country is facing an unprecedented situation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, friction can occur, so it is important for the population to maintain order.
