You could make many different arguments about why Maneater launched in 1982, it became almost instantaneous Dar’s biggest hityl Hall and John Oates’ collaborative career. There is, of course, the opening bass rhythm, which is in your head just before the wild keys can hit. There is the sudden and sensual nature of the song (vaguely misogynistic)) lyrics, belted by Hall like a haunted man. And, of course, there’s Charles DeChant’s sexy and cunning saxophone that holds the whole piece together.

Now we can – and we owe it to Oates for bringing this to our attention – to add “It’s not played by a saxophone playing the saxophone while trying to play some kind of half-drunk EDM” to the reasons why it works. “Maneater”. so good. And if you don’t believe us, well, you can go further and watch the video below from Monstercat Instinct, in which Oates and “Saxsquatch ”plays a song that – to paraphrase Douglas Adams – sounds almost, but not quite, completely different from“ Maneater ”.

For all we know, Saxsquatch can be a really great saxophonist for a sasquatch. But compared to DeChant, we have to realize it’s just him not yet ready for the spotlight. Meanwhile, Oates serves as an agitated reminder of what is best known as guitarist for Hall And Oates, and not, say, the singer. The end result is, at best, harmless – and only then, when you are not constantly reminded that you could listen to “Maneater”.

But even beyond the song, we find our minds spinning with questions. “Why?” in the first place, of course, bitter and unanswered. But then a deeper self-examination / sasquatch attack sets in: “Why this duo felt the need promote the video with a Forbes interview, one that contains the immortal lineDo you know that an interview is special when Saxsquatch has both Oates and I breaking up? ”“ It’s the implication that Saxsquatch this, it, a eater, and will he devour Oates, in disorder, after the recording is completed? ” “Why Fuck they are small cartoons Do Daft Punk robots dance in the video? “These are the questions that gradually keep us up at night, exhaust us, weaken us.

And so the Saxonsquatch take it.
