Let’s put this straight and straight: Joe Rogan trippin ‘?
The veteran cage commentator was at UFC Apex on Saturday night for UFC 258 to name its first event in 2021, and his return gave us a very strange moment with Polyana Viana.
Viana just got an impressive first-round victory over Mallory Martin during their preliminary fight on ESPN. With Rogan in a post-fight interview, this is how their conversation began:
Rogan: “Before I even talk about fighting, I want to know: What was it like to become famous for beating that attacker in Brazil?”
Viana, by translator Alex Davis: “It simply came to our notice then. Everyone still remembers. I am very happy, because that inspired many women to start taking self-defense classes. ”
Yes it is. Viana had just looked very good in winning the second straight fight, but for some strange reason, Rogan was interested in talking first about something that happened in January 2019.
It was a viral story then broken by then-MMA Junkie reporter Fernanda Prates. But did Rogan read about it this week?
Strange as it may be, however, Rogan joined fellow commentators Jon Anik and Daniel Cormier and was unprepared to stop talking about the kidnappers’ story. Here’s what was said in the air before going to the commercials:
Rogan: “We talked about it during the break, but this fight, that thing he had in Brazil, we didn’t really talk on the air, did we? Here is a viral image of a man with his face beaten in hell and it is because of this woman. He tried to dress her, and she snapped at him. He became part of several memes. ”
Cormier: “He is famous because he was beaten …”
Rogan: “And a beautiful woman! What a terrible life! ”
Oh, the crack.
