Joe Musgrove managed to reach the first gamble in the history of the San Diego Padres

San Diego Padres starter Joe Musgrove posted the first non-playing player in the organization’s history on Friday in a 3-0 victory over the Texas Rangers.

Musgrove (2-0) blew 10 strokes (four on sliders, four on curves, one diver and one change).

“It’s amazing to wear this uniform,” said Musgrove, who has never thrown a player without a hitter at any level in his career. “Being the first in the franchise’s history is incredible,” he added.

Musgrove, 28, withdrew the Rangers’ first 11 fights in order. Then he sent Joey Gallo and retired in the next 16. He started the bottom nine with 103 pitches, a worrying number of pitches. However, nine tones later, Musgrove made history.

“It was like three different scenarios where I thought I lost him,” he said.

Musgrove, who grew up in El Cajon, California, about 15 miles from San Diego, is in his sixth major league season. Previously, he played for Houston (2016-17) and Pittsburgh (2018-20) and has never played a full game in his last 84 starts.

“I’m exhausted, man,” he said. “I couldn’t get out of that game,” he added. Musgrove threw 77 of the 112 pitches for strikes.

It was the first no hit in the major standings this season and only the second full game.

Puerto Rican catcher Victor Caratini caught the last two without shots from MLB. The last receiver to do that was Ryan Hanigan in 2012-13, both for Homer Bailey.

Padre have made history against the Rangers in the last two seasons. Last season, when the Padres became the first team to hit a grand slam in four straight games, they all came against Texas (two in Arlington and two in San Diego, Aug. 17-20).
