President Biden’s commitment to distribute 100 million photos of COVID-19 vaccines in his first 100 days in office does not mean that 100 million Americans will be vaccinated during that time, Dr. Anthony Fauci acknowledged on Sunday.
This volume of vaccines will see only about 67 million people completely inoculated, as both current vaccines require two vaccines, he said. on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
“Let me clarify this because there was a little bit of understanding. What we are talking about is 100 million photos of individuals “, said the director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases.
“At the end of a hundred days, you will have some people who will have obtained both photos, and some will still be in their first photos,” Fauci added.
Fauci had been confronted with a previous interview in which he told CBS: “You know, the goal that has been set, which I think is entirely achievable, is to have 100 million people vaccinated in the first 100 days.”
When asked at the time if that meant “both vaccines,” he said, “Primary and boost, yes.”
Biden’s “100 million” target has already caught fire because it aimed too little – data shows that the country was already distributing more than 1 million photos a day when he took office.
When asked last week why he didn’t follow up, a reporter gave him: “Come on, give me a break, man! It’s a good start. ”
The CDC said it had administered more than 20 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the United States since Saturday.
Another 20 million were distributed, the agency said.
