JetBlue bans hand luggage for lower fares

The airline JetBlue announced several changes to its baggage policy during the week, eliminating the possibility of carrying hand luggage on the plane for customers who pay the lowest fares.

Known as the “Basic Blue,” for those using this rate starting Thursday, the 25th, they will only be able to carry a personal item, such as a purse or backpack, that fits under the front seat.

“If you make a reservation starting with 25.02.21 to travel from 20.07.2021 and prefer to carry your luggage in the cabin or store something else in the air compartment, don’t forget to book a Blue, Blue Plus fare, Blue Extra or Mint”, read a statement, referring to the other offers they offer.

Exceptions to these cases are members of the airline’s “Mosaic” category, who can travel with a handbag and have priority boarding at all fares, passengers who combine a Blue Basic fare with an “Even more space” seat (at a higher price), active military and unaccompanied minors.

Of all these, only customers with an even more spacious seat are guaranteed to bring their luggage bag on board.

Starting with 7/20, on US domestic flights, those traveling with a Blue, Blue Extra or Mint fare or purchasing an Even More® Space seat now have our word that their travel baggage will travel on board as long as you meet all requirements.

For other routes, the space in the air compartments is occupied on a first-come, first-served basis and subject to availability. Those boarding in later groups may need to check in their hand luggage at the boarding gate.

Otherwise, all hand luggage taken to the boarding gate, except personal belongings, will be charged.

The price to be paid will be 65 USD (approximately 3,766 pesos), if it is the first or second checked baggage, or 180 USD (approximately 10,431 RD), if it is the third, according to the JetBlue information page.
