Jerry Seinfeld “felt so at home” reopening the Gotham Comedy Club

What’s up with 2020?

Funny legendary Jerry Seinfeld broke his pandemic break in New York on Friday night, delighting fans with an energetic set at the reopening of Gotham Comedy Club in Chelsea.

“I thought I had to be electrocuted in a good way – in a good way,” said a still-clogged Seinfeld reporter.

“The audience was great and I actually felt like, can I still do this? You wonder if you remember. It’s like not playing tennis for a year.

“And so, as soon as I got up, the audience exploded and I felt so at home,” he said.

“And I like this club – I like to perform in New York. I didn’t want to be emotional, but I’m very excited to help bring him back, “said Seinfeld, who wore his sign blazer and Mets hat.

So how do you fight those Mets?

Seinfeld said he was “delighted and excited” by Amazin this year as he drove out to the Mercedes G Wagon on West 23rd Street.

And when asked by The Post if he was telling a joke “what’s going on” to the Chelsea audience, Seinfeld laughed and said, “No, I wish I had something.”

The 66-year-old Long Island native said returning to the club was a much-needed dose of medication.

“Comedy is more than interesting and funny. It changes your mood. It’s one of the few things that can really change the way you feel and give you a little real relief.

“When you laugh, you forget about every problem you’ve ever had,” Seinfeld said.

Members of the public could not agree more.

A newlywed couple in New York who gave their names as Leyla and Vlad said they appreciated Seinfeld’s jokes Friday night about marriage – and how most of the communication, for better or worse, is non-verbal.

“I felt that life was back to normal,” Leyla said of the club’s reopening. “Comedy is back.”

Seinfeld has backed the city for the past year, though some have fled Gotham to greener pastures.

Seinfeld, while wearing a Mets hat, said he is ready to see his favorite team play this season.

Last fall, he wrote a harsh editorial about New York’s vitality after Stand Up NY co-owner James Altucher declared the city “dead forever” from the COVID-19 crisis.
