Jennifer Lopez addresses the nation in Spanish during the opening show

Jennifer Lopez took the stage to perform a mix of patriotic songs – and took a moment to sneak into one of her hits and address the nation in Spanish.

Lopez began his show with “This Land is Your Land”, moving to “Beautiful America”. Then Lopez spoke in Spanish.

“One nation, under God, indivisible, with freedom and justice for all,” she said, reciting part of the Pledge of Faith: “One nation, under God, indivisible with freedom and justice for all.”

Lopez, who is Puerto Rican, has several Latin albums and often sings in Spanish. Last year, during the Super Bowl break show, Lopez and theater colleague Shakira celebrated their cultures by singing and dancing, representing Hispanic Americans. Lopez also released Colombian singer J Balvin and Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny.

Lopez’s inaugural performances were reminiscent of her Super Bowl show, when she slipped into her 2000 hit “Let’s Get Loud,” which she sang during a break with her daughter, Emme Muñiz.

Many fans on Twitter they were proud Lopez took a moment to add his own flair and recite some of the pledge in Spanish. “I watched the inauguration and @JLo he spoke Spanish. One of the students in my class says, “I know what she said !!” This is why representation matters! ” a teacher posted on Twitter.

“Jennifer Lopez says part of her promise of faith in Spanish … Amazing. So wonderfully appropriate,” one Twitter user wrote.

“Yes, that’s right, I’m Puerto Rican and I can’t stop the tears,” said another.
