Jeep Grand Cherokee with two rows spied, catching a ride on the U-Haul trailer

Jeep has taken a curious path with the next generation Grand Cherokee. For starters, a three-row version has finally entered the scene as the Grand Cherokee L, a vehicle that should have joined the Jeep years ago. It debuted in January, but the standard two-row version remained undercover. That’s because it won’t be a carbon copy minus a set of seats, and this new spy video reminds us of that.

Recently captured by TFL now, this video shows the two great Cherokees together, although they do not cross the Colorado Mountains as a fleet. The large Grand Cherokee L is actually towing a standard Grand Cherokee prototype. That shouldn’t be a problem for the SUV, because even with the smaller V6 engine it is rated to pull 6200 pounds. With the optional 5.7-liter Hemi V8, it can carry £ 7,200, but our interest here is not Grand Cherokee L.

In fact, the prototype is not so important either, because the video does not give us a close look. We can see the different front facades with its angular sockets, not to mention the shorter back. Judging by the wheels, I would say that this is not the 4xe plug-in hybrid test vehicle that was also recently spotted in the area. Honestly, we’re more interested in knowing what’s on a U-Haul trailer. Maybe there are some problems in paradise for this Grand Cherokee prototype?

The video mentions that Jeep performs towing tests in the mountains, but it seems that a car manufacturer would have its own trailers for such things. Beyond that, towing tests usually involve ballast, unlike a vehicle itself, so as not to cause an accident that could damage two cars instead of one. That being said, how many people rent a U-Haul trailer to go pick up a vehicle somewhere? If you want a real-world test – especially for car enthusiasts who are always looking for project cars – you can’t get more real world than this.

However, we believe that something happened to the five-passenger Grand Cherokee test vehicle, which could not be remedied in the wild. He can be seen entering the highway, probably heading east toward Motor City. Everything is part of the development process, but hopefully all the issues will be resolved before it goes on sale for the 2022 model year.
