The Central Electoral Council, headed by its President Román Jáquez, submitted to the Legislative Chambers its proposal to amend Law 659-44, on civil status documents, of July 17, 1944.
Santo Domingo, RD The aim of the initiative is to update this law and adapt it to the new reality of the civil registry in the country and, above all, to ensure that citizens have better access to the services provided, ensuring, also the security of all documents that are processed in the civil registry.
The JCE considers that it is necessary to adapt the conditions contained in the law to the regime, in order to eliminate under-registrations in the country.
The draft took into account the link between Articles 55 and 56 of the Constitution and the Civil Registry on the rights of the family and of children and adolescents.
The JCE explains that in its proposal it has taken into account a set of laws affecting the scope of the civil registry, such as 136-03, which establishes the system of protection for children and adolescents, 01-1 2 on the national development strategy, 29-11, Organic of the Superior Electoral Court, and 15-19, Organic of the Electoral Regime, as well as the main resolutions and regulations issued by the JCE on civil registration.
