NEW YORK – Jay Bruce celebrated his 34th birthday by collecting his first hit and RBIs in a Yankees uniform, leading his new club to a 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon on Yankee Stadium.
Bruce delivered Tim Mayza in the sixth inning, a two-run lifeguard, helping the Bombers retire for their first win of the young season, and Gary Sánchez scored for the second time in as many games. the only Yankee catchers who managed to make homer in the first two contests of a season.
Corey Kluber held Toronto to two runs (one won) and five hits over four innings in his Yankees debut. The two-time Cy Young Award winner sailed around three rides, a successful hitter and a wild pitch, bursting five in a 74-pitch effort. After Marcus Semien’s solo Homer followed Kluber, Jonathan Loaisiga was relieved, withdrawing all six beatings and hitting three.
New York managed three runs and seven shots in 3 1/3 innings against Toronto starter Ross Stripling. DJ LeMahieu distributed only one match on the field in the second half, Sánchez launched a 365-foot line to the left seats in the fourth. Aaron Hicks also beat in a single-field base-loaded race in the fourth, a Stripling-laden race.
