Java ‘s ring of fire rumbles: Indonesian volcanoes erupt – in pictures World news

Java’s volcanoes continue to show worrying signs, with authorities closely monitoring seismic activity as they throw lava and ash into the atmosphere for miles.

At 3,676 meters (12,060 feet), Mount Semeru in East Java is one of the highest volcanoes in Indonesia. Mount Merapi in central Java is an active volcano of 2,929 meters (9,610 feet), with a hiking trail to its peak and a surrounding national park. Both continue to bother the authorities.

On January 16, 2021, the Semeru Volcano Observatory issued a warning to warn aviation of an ash cloud moving northeast with an ash cloud peak about 5,676 meters (18,163 feet) above sea level, but may be greater than what can be clearly observed.
