Like any fantasy GM who landed James Robinson last season can attest, the Jaguars did well signing the Division I-FCS product after the 2020 draft. But the new Jacksonville regime would prefer backfield competition next season.
Robinson recorded 240 transports last season. This total was an amazing part of the team’s hasty attempts. In the 14 games Robinson played, no other running back Jaguar recorded more than 10 sacks. This ratio will almost certainly change Urban Meyerthe first season.
“It’s hard. He has a wonderful mind, the kind of player we’re looking for. We need to add explosives to that room and we need to be able to take some of James’ shipments”, Jags GM Trent Baalke said. “You can’t ride a horse for that long. ”
Even after Cam RobinsonThe franchise label of 13.75 million USD, Jags leads the league in the maximum space (73.67 million USD). He could win a bidding war for either of the free agent’s backs. From now on, that group should include Aaron Jones, Chris Carson, Kenyan Drake and Marlon Mack. The Broncos also have to make a decision on Phillip LindsayFRG auction.
A follow-up to Jones or Carson may not be in the books, but the team will be in combination for a complementary piece – either in a free agency or at the beginning of the project. While Meyer has said (via John Oehser of Jaguars.com) that he hopes to build around Robinson, the new Jags HC really wants more talent for next year’s team.
“He did a great job. He will continue to do an excellent job for the organization and we feel that he will be one step ahead of where he was a year ago.“Meyer said of Robinson. “But by adding some competitiveness to that room … we feel like we have some guys who can compete for roles, but we’re definitely looking to add to that room as well.. ”
The Illinois product rushed for 1,070 meters, ranking fifth in the league last season. While Robinson is far from the open market, the Jaguars may move to expand it next season due to his UDFA status.
