BARCELONA – Josep Maria Bartomeu has denied any responsibility after being one of the names indicated as possibly responsible for the leak of Messi’s contract published by the newspaper El Mundo in its Sunday edition and in the communication with TV3, he denied that he had any connection with the case.
The former president of Barcelona, who in November 2017 signed the renewal contract with the Argentine star, warned in a statement sent to the Catalan channel his desire to go to the bottom of the problem.
“This is a very serious issue, because it is totally illegal to filter any professional contract to the media. The accusation is very easy, but we are not kidding and all this will go to court,” he said.
“Messi deserves everything he receives, whether for professional or commercial reasons and without the effects of the pandemic, Barça would be fully able to pay these figures,” said Bartomeu, clarifying his belief that the captain’s contract figures are in line with its importance in the club.
Resigned in October last year, after all the controversy surrounding the censure motion, the former president returned to the forefront, being chosen as one of the people who could have been the cause of the leak of the contract and Messi’s name. It is speculated that one of those who will be investigated at the request of the Argentine player’s lawyers.
Bartomeu and Òscar Grau, Barça’s general manager, are aware of the document, as is the current president Carles Tusquets, all of whom are suspected, in Messi’s eyes, of being able to bear the crime of revealing a professional secret.
