Switch to the launch title Zelda: Breath of the Wild continues to throw great secrets even today the Twitter user EHEYimHeroic just unearthed another: the NPCs in the game use an updated version of the Mii face creation tool, which first appeared when the Wii was released in 2006.
It is logical that Nintendo would use an existing tool to streamline the process of creating characters for the game, but it is still somewhat surprising that a system created 15 years ago is still used in Nintendo AAA software.
It’s also interesting because it means that hackers who separate the game on the PC (by emulation) can “inject” new faces into the game now understand how those faces are created. Expect to see some famous faces arriving in modified versions of Breath of the Wild soon, then.
