It seems that Nintendo is suggesting the release date of the next console after the switch

Nintendo Switch has been out for almost four years, however it is still in high demand and even now it shows no signs of slowing down. It is unlikely to be able to surpass the Nintendo DS as Nintendo’s best-selling piece of hardware, but it is about to beat the Nintendo Wii and maybe even the Game Boy, respectively the third and second best-selling Nintendo console. The aforementioned DS amounts to approximately 154 million units sold. Again, this will be hard to beat. However, the Wii and Game Boy are 101 million and 118 million.

In November 2020, Nintendo sold 68 million Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite units. To get to the aforementioned hardware, it will not only need a few more years on the market, but also a few years as Nintendo’s first console. That being said, it looks like it will be at least 3-5 years old as Nintendo’s main console, which means that, as current trends continue, it should be the second best-selling console from Nintendo. Nintendo to reach the end of its life.

Speaking to Polygon, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser confirmed that the Nintendo Switch is in the “middle ground” of its life cycle. In March, the Nintendo Switch will be four years old, which means it’s safe to assume it will be Nintendo’s branded console for another four years or so. Of course, a stronger review may be introduced at some point, but right now Nintendo denies that a “Nintendo Switch Pro” is in the works.

If the Nintendo Switch has a life cycle of about 8 years, that would mean that Nintendo’s next console should be available around 2025. For now, that’s just a guess, but that’s what Bowser suggests if he says that Switch- ul is at its halfway point.

For now, everything is a little speculative, but at least it gives us a rough roadmap for the future and more or less confirms that we will not see a completely new piece of substantial hardware from the company for at least several years.

If Nintendo provides more information or clarification on Bowser’s comment, we’ll be sure to update the story. In the meantime, for more coverage of all things Nintendo – including all the latest news, rumors, leaks, deals, guides, reviews and more – click here.
