Cuban journalist José Raúl Gallego interrogated actor and comedian Alejandro García Virulo for writing the song “Don’t Get Involved with Cuba,” which openly criticizes Donald Trump, but also contains phrases addressed to the San Isidro Movement (MSI).
Gallego asked the singer-songwriter if the conga fragment that says, “those who do commissions (for Trump), hurry because the party is over and, seeing that” baro “will end, they formed a titingó” It refers to those who they garrisoned in San Isidro and the hundreds of artists and intellectuals who gathered in front of the Ministry of Culture demanding freedom of expression.
“Is that what you interpreted?” That was Virulo’s answer.
The young reporter replied that it would be very sad for someone so talented to believe the version of the regime, which is trying to blame the US government and its president, the responsibility for all the diseases that Cubans suffer.
It is very sad (…) that his song is used as a soundtrack for the next acts of rejection of good people who do not confuse with “Cuba”, Virulo, but are in front of the Government of Cuba (there are two very very different things ) to ask questions that would make Cuba and Cubans better, ”he stressed.
Virulo replied that, in his opinion, Trump represents a real danger for Cuba and for the world.
“That man is crazy. And I still can’t understand how many people don’t see it. We Cubans will solve Cuba’s problems without anyone intervening. That’s what I’m asking for with my song. And I say it very clearly “, he specified.
But Gallego returned to the accusation, claiming that the problem is not in Trump’s criticism, but in the verse that repeats the government’s speech that the people who have protested in Cuba in recent weeks are “those who lead the commissions” for Atu.
“With Cuba, we must” involve “all Cubans, but the government that paid its conga, calls us a few former Cubans, mercenaries, traitors and seizes what it finds to eliminate anyone who disagrees from the debate. That is why we, the Cubans (all of them), have not been able to solve the problems of the Cubans for sixty years “, he said.

The recording of the song “Don’t get involved with Cuba” was attended by besides Virulo, other artists such as Mayito Rivera, Israel Rojas, director of the duo Buena Fe; Ricardo Leyva, Ricardo Amaray and Moisés Valle, among others.
The video for the song was filmed this week on the Paseo del Prado in Havana, and Conga de los Hoyos and Guaracheros de Regla also participated with art students.
