It is rumored that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 would have an unannounced chip, could it be an AMD-based SoC from Samsung?

When it comes to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 specifications, its chipset is a missing puzzle. The usual hypothesis was that it would be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, but now it seems that the South Korean company has a surprise in store.

Prolific leaker Ice Universe claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 chipset is a top secret, which means that we can name Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 that power the European and Middle Eastern versions of the Galaxy S21 series.

Z Fold 3 could be powered by Exynos 9925 or AMD-based Snapdragon 888+

During the Exynos 2100 presentation event, Dr. Inyup Kang, President of System LSI Business said that “the next flagship product” will come with an AMD GPU. It is unclear whether he was referring to the next premium chip or the next state-of-the-art phone.

Samsung is expected to unveil the new GPU in June, but a previous rumor said it could be some time before a chip with AMD graphics is released. That being said, the custom GPU was previously expected to come in 2022, so Samsung appears to be running ahead of schedule and could launch an AMD-based Exynos chip sooner than expected. The chipset is apparently known internally as the Exynos 9925.

The Exynos 2100 processor is as good as the Snapdragon 888, thanks to changes made by Samsung, but Qualcomm’s Adreno GPU still has a graphics advantage. The leaked benchmark results suggest that Samsung’s AMD GPU will be a true rival to Adreno and could even be equal to the graphics performance of the Apple Bionic SoC.

Alternatively, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 may be powered by a new version of the Snapdragon 888.

Samsung’s future foldable flagship is expected to have a slightly smaller screen and battery than Fold 2. The camera’s specifications are largely unknown.

Apparently the phone will be unveiled in July, along with Z Flip 3 and Galaxy S21 FE.
