I’ve heard a lot of new leaks and rumors about a potential remake or sequel Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic in the last month. Although none of these rumors have been confirmed yet, given the large number of them that have emerged, it goes without saying that there is some accuracy in what has been around. Now, more information has emerged that gives us an idea of how long this new DIRTY was apparently at work.
Seen by Reddit user u / mtol115, Aspyr, which is the studio that is rumored to be working on this new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic The game appears to have brought in a variety of previous BioWare staff members in 2019. The user found that about 20 former BioWare developers are currently employed at Aspyr. While some of these former BioWare employees have been at Aspyr for some time, others have joined the studio in 2019.

Overall, this information seems to suggest that the new iteration of Knights of the Old Republic has probably been in development since 2019. Usually, when studios start working on new projects of this type, they will bring on board a variety of new jobs simultaneously. The fact that so many developers from another prominent studio working mainly on RPGs have come to join Aspyr in 2019 seems to suggest that the game has been in production for some time since.
Depending on the scope of this new remake / continuation of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, this news could tell us a few things about when to expect the game. Most versions of AAA games tend to see periods of development that last on average between three and five years. As such, a launch for this new one DIRTY as a result, the 2021 game seems quite unlikely.
That being said, it seems possible that we could see another rebirth in the series in a different form this year. Other rumors in recent weeks have suggested that Aspyr is also working on porting the first two Knights of the Old Republic games for modern consoles sometime later in 2021. Again, we still don’t know if this is entirely true, but given how many other Star Wars games have been ported in recent years, it’s extremely plausible.
