Christmas Eve is here and it’s coming to a hectic time for traders and observers in Washington, DC. President Donald Trump threw a key into the $ 900 billion bipartisan bailout bill Tuesday night when he called on Congress to amend the package to include higher direct aid payments and cuts to what he called “wasteful items.” and useless ”.
The S&P 500 index
closed slightly on Wednesday, bringing year-to-date gains to 14.2%.
Dow Jones Industrial Average
is at 30,129.83, up 5.6% in 2020. Congress is now struggling to get relief over the finish line. In the meantime, investors will receive such a necessary break in action, starting with Christmas Eve.
Is the stock market closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2020?
The New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq will close at 1 p.m., Eastern Time, on Christmas Eve. Both will be closed on Friday for Christmas. US bond and stock market markets will also close at 2pm on December 24th and all day on December 25th.
Are foreign stock exchanges open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2020?
The Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Tokyo Stock Exchange will be open on both days. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange closes at noon, local time on Christmas Eve and all day on Christmas Day.
The Toronto Stock Exchange closes at 13:00 ET on Christmas Eve. It will be closed on Christmas Day.
London Stock Exchange
will close at 12:30 GMT on Thursday and all day Friday.
Can I have Christmas Eve anyway?
You wouldn’t be alone. Christmas Eve usually sees a much smaller volume than an average day. Going back to 2007 – except for the years when Christmas Day fell on a weekend – the average Christmas Eve volume on the NYSE Composite and Nasdaq Composite was 36.8% of a normal day at that time, according to data from FactSet compiled by Dow Jones Market Data.
How did stocks evolve on Christmas Eve?
Except for the years when the market closed on Christmas Eve, the S&P 500 grew by an average of 0.2% on Christmas Eve, higher than the average daily gain of 0.13%, according to Dow Jones Market data. But the average movement of the index on Christmas Eve is 0.48%, lower than the average daily movement of 0.74%.
