Meghan Markle will use anger at her interview with Oprah to launch a political career that could lead her to the White House if rumors circulating around Westminster last week prove correct.
A senior Labor official – a veteran of the Tony Blair administration in Downing Street with strong ties to Washington – claimed on Sunday in The Mail that Mrs Markle, 39, was networking with senior Democrats to building a campaign and collecting teams for a US presidency.
Last night, a source close to the Duchess of Sussex declined to comment, but the couple made no secret about their political beliefs.

A senior Labor official claimed that 39-year-old Meghan Markle (pictured last year) was networking with senior Democrats to build a campaign and fundraising teams for a US presidency. .
During last year’s US election, they launched a subtle attack on Donald Trump, urging voters to “reject hate speech,” which a couple spokesman described as a “call for decency.” Trump himself said he was “not a fan” of Meghan, 39.
A source said: “Blairite, internationalist and democratic party networks are buzzing with discussions about Meghan’s political ambitions and potential supporters.”
Last year, a friend of the Duchess told Vanity Fair magazine that one of the reasons she did not give up her American citizenship when she married the Royal Family was to allow her to keep open the option to enter Washington politics.
US constitutional experts have said they will have to relinquish the title if they want to hold public office in the states because it would override the US oath of allegiance.
Buckingham Palace tried to distance the Royal Family from remarks made during the US election, issuing a statement saying “the Duke is not an active member of the Royal Family” and described his comments as “made in a personal capacity”.
The source added that the presumption was that the duchess was looking forward to 2024, when President Joe Biden will be 82 years old and will decide if he wants to run for a second term.

During last year’s US election, the couple launched a slim attack on Donald Trump, urging voters to “reject hate speech.”

If she got to the White House, Meghan would be the first woman American president – succeeding where Hillary Clinton failed four years ago
If she got to the White House, Meghan would be the first female American president – succeeding where Hillary Clinton failed four years ago – and the second non-white occupant of the oval office after Barack Obama.
She would also follow in the footsteps of President Ronald Reagan, who was an actor in Hollywood for four decades before moving into politics. During the 2020 campaign, the duchess addressed the party When All Women Vote on the Couch, the organization co-founded by Michelle Obama to encourage participation in elections.
Meghan’s friends have previously encouraged speculation about her political ambitions – describing her rise from humble beginnings as the “embodiment of the American dream.”
