DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa reported seven more coronavirus-related deaths Tuesday, bringing the state’s total to 3,999.
Researchers at Johns Hopkins University report that the death rate per capita in Iowa has risen by a notch to 14th in the country, with 126.5 deaths per 100,000 people.
Recently updated state data show that 3,952 people died in Iowa in November, the highest total death in a month for the state.
State-available data show that the total number of deaths in Iowa last year is the highest total in a single year, at least since 1915. Deaths as of November totaled 31,628. Even without added deaths in December, the state has already surpassed the 2019 deaths, which totaled 30,669.
