Investigators find traces of heroin in the car of the policeman who attacked the FMLN caravan | News from El Salvador

After the attack, the car was stored in one of the parking lots of the Ministry of Health, a few blocks from the scene of the incident.

The General Prosecutor’s Office (FGR) revealed in the last hours that the specialists found traces of heroin in the car of Diego Francisco Alvarado Peña (30 years old), a policeman assigned to the Division of Protection of Important Personalities (PPI) and currently detained for the attack on FMLN caravan, Sunday, January 31.

Alvarado Peña, who is assigned to the security of the Minister of Health, Francisco Alabí, is hospitalized due to gunshot wounds. Until yesterday, it was not known how he was injured.

Regarding the traces of drugs in the car, Raúl Melara, the Attorney General of the Republic, referred yesterday as follows: “What if I want to tell you that a curious fact is that, when he did the expertise of the blue vehicle, he gave positive results to heroin ”.

The car in which the three defendants were driving was a blue Hyundai Elantra with P 830 034 plates, named after police officer Alvarado Peña. After the attack, the car was stored in one of the parking lots of the Ministry of Health, a few blocks from the scene of the incident.

On Monday, February 1, the car was inspected in that parking lot. In addition to traces of drugs, they found a 9 mm pistol and a rifle. In the afternoon of that day, the car (already sealed) was removed.

In the videos broadcast by the prosecution on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 3, it is observed how the three attackers drive in that blue car, intercept the truck with the FMLN militants, go out and carry out the attack. Then only two return to the car and run away.

Due to the injuries received, two FMLN activists died: Gloria Rogel and Juan de Dios Tejada.

In addition to Alvarado Peña, Roberto Carlos Coto de Paz (41), a private security guard at the Ministry of Health, and Héctor de Jesús Castañeda (49), a motorist from the same ministry, are charged with assault. The latter two were brought before a court of law on the afternoon of February 3, where they will be accused of killing FMLN activists.

The General Prosecutor’s Office showed video surveillance images showing the time when FMLN militants were attacked on January 31.
