Inter Miami confirms departure of coach Diego Alonso “by mutual agreement”

Inter Miami CF announced today that the club and coach Diego Alonso have agreed to part ways.

“On behalf of the organization, I want to thank Diego for his hard work and dedication during the inaugural season and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” said Inter Miami CF owner Jorge Mas. “It was a difficult year and a very difficult decision for everyone, but we think it is the right step for the club. We have high expectations for Inter Miami in the short and long term “.

Traveling this inaugural season with Inter Miami was an incredible experience and I am grateful to the group of owners for the opportunity. I want to thank the staff for their work and friendship, the players for the effort on the field and especially the fans for their constant support throughout the year. I wish you all the best next season “, said Alonso.

On Wednesday, ESPN reported that David Beckham, the majority owner of Inter Miami, is in advanced negotiations with his former Manchester United teammate, Phil Neville, to take control of the team, while negotiating with the English women’s team to leave this position and emigrate to MLS.

Inter Miami finished with a regular season record of seven wins, three draws and 13 defeats, finishing 10th in the Eastern Conference. The club was eliminated from the MLS Cup playoffs on November 20, 2020.

Alonso helped oversee several important moments in the club’s first year, from the team’s debut to its playoff spot, becoming the seventh MLS franchise to qualify for the playoffs in its inaugural season.

Inter Miami CF wishes Alonso all the best in his future endeavors.
