Intel Dunks on Apple Dongles in the ongoing anti-M1 campaign for the Mac

Intel continues its anti-Apple advertising campaign, sharing a tweet today that highlights the lack of ports on M1 Macs. In a photo, actor Justin Long is sitting on a couch with a Windows computer and holding a handful of Apple dongles.

Apple Macs have long been confused by their lack of ports and the need to use dongles for various accessories and displays. Since 2016, Macs have included only USB-C ports, with Apple removing HDMI ports, USB-A ports and SD card readers from its notebook lineup. However, this will change in 2021, with rumors suggesting that Apple will introduce new MacBook Pro models, which once again include an SD card reader and an HDMI port.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who shared Apple’s future port plans in January, said that in the future, “most users may not have to buy additional dongles.”

The announcement follows several anti-M1 Mac videos that Intel shared yesterday with Justin Long, who used to be in the well-known Apple commercials “I’m a Mac”. In the videos, Long promotes Intel-based computers, highlighting their gaming capabilities, touch screens and other features.

Intel ads come as Apple moves away from Intel chips in its Mac lineup. Apple launched the ‌M1‌ chip in November in MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini and there are several Apple silicon chips on the way. Over the next two years, Apple plans to completely move away from Intel chips.

Justin Long ads are not the first anti-Apple ads Intel has distributed. In February, Intel launched a Twitter-based campaign, trying to highlight the shortcomings of ‌M1‌ Macs. Intel seems to be threatened by Apple’s chip options. The ‌M1 C chips received a lot of attention at launch due to their impressive speed and efficiency, which Intel chips cannot match.

Apple has even faster chips on the road and there will be little left for Intel to appeal to once the next-generation Apple MacBook Pro silicon chips and a range of ports are available.
