The United States, torn by mass insurrection and misinformation, is witnessing a real-time political and social realignment: we are divided into three Americas.
Why does it matter: America, in its modern core components, is turning into Blue America, Red America, and Trump America — all with distinct policies, social networks, and media channels.
The existential question for Republicans and, perhaps, for America, it is whether Trump America – animated by Newsmax + Rush Limbaugh + Tucker Carlson + Parler (or anything else that replaces him) – eclipses traditional Red America in power for years to come.
- danger: Parts of Trump America, canceled by Twitter and so many others, break ties with the realities of other Americas and practically go underground. There will be less awareness and perhaps an examination of what is being said and done.
- Sara Fischer of Axios rEPORTS that Apptopia is showing an increase in downloads for conservative-friendly social networks – Parler, MeWe and Rumble – over the past two days, following Trump’s bans on social media and mass technology.
The whole picture: The Republican Party split in two, starting with the relatively small launch of Never Trumpers in 2016 and joined four years later by a new section of Republicans rejected by President Trump’s post-election actions.
- We have no clue how big this faction will grow. But it seems clear that the Trump saga against them will dominate the coming months and maybe the years.
There is no clear evidence however, Trump America has shrunk significantly, despite lies about the election and the mafia assault on the US Capitol.
- There is hard evidence Trumpers approach social media groups and high-selling outlets, such as Newsmax, to get and share news that strengthens their views.
- It will take some time to determine whether voters share the anti-Trump views of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell or Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska).
- Twitter decision to permanently suspend Trump is forcing this faction further underground.
Blue America is ascending in almost every area:
- He gained control from all three branches of government; dominates the traditional media; owns, controls and lives on the dominant social platforms; and has the power of employees at Big Tech companies to force corporate decisions.
Bottom line: Now, more than ever, is the time to read and reflect: our nation is rethinking politics, free speech, the definition of truth, and the price of lies. This moment – and our decisions – will be studied by our child’s grandchildren.
