Instagram said on Wednesday that it was the account of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for making false claims about the COVID-19 vaccine.
“We have removed this account because we have repeatedly shared disproved claims about the coronavirus or vaccines,” said a spokesman.
The prominent anti-vaxxer had 800,000 followers on the platform when his account was banned.
He had recently falsely linked the death of legendary baseball player Hank Aaron to the COVID-19 shooting, claiming there was “a wave of suspicious deaths among older” people who received the vaccine.
Kennedy’s Facebook page was still open as of Wednesday.
A spokesperson for Facebook, which owns Instagram, said the company does not automatically disable accounts for all of its apps, as users can post different things on different platforms.
