Infectologists recommend not to travel, avoid closures and family gatherings

The Puerto Rico Infectious Diseases Society has published a list of recommendations in light of the increase in the number of cases of coronavirus, COVID-19, in Puerto Rico as well as in the United States and other parts of the world.

One of the suggestions in written communication signed by infectologists Lemuel MartĂ­nez, Humberto Guiot, and Marielys Otero, president, vice president, and secretary of the Society, respectively, is to cancel any trip to the United States and international travel. “There are many more aggressive variants of COVID-19, access to drugs is limited, and vaccination processes are just beginning in many countries,” some of the expressions go.

They indicated that the states with the highest incidence are Michigan, Rhode Island, Minnesota, and Alaska. They point to the poor security measures against COVID in the states of Texas and Florida.

In addition, health workers urged citizens to cancel family celebrations and celebrations, including the celebration of Mother’s Day. “We urge families to avoid encounters with travelers whether or not they have been vaccinated,” she added.

On the other hand, the Society recommended not to sing them in churches or businesses that are in closed rooms.

Regarding the government, the doctors called for immediate and aggressive curfews, partial closure of non-essential services, and for weekend activities to be canceled to avoid blockage, at least for the next 2 to 4 weeks.

Regarding the increase in hospital admissions, they indicate that they should “stock up on protective equipment, masks and all necessary material in the face of a possible exponential increase in the number of patients”.
