Raymond Childs III, 17, was also charged with attempted murder of a brother who had fled the family’s home after the initial shooting and carrying an unlicensed gun, according to court documents shared by the Marion County prosecutor’s office.
According to a prosecution’s release, he is being charged as an adult “because of his age and the charge of murder”.
Childs is represented by the Marion County Public Defender Agency, which will not comment on the allegations, the agency told CNN.
“We intend to seek justice for the victims in a way that respects the trial and all circumstances of this case,” prosecutor Ryan Mears said in the release.
The murders are the largest mass-casualty shooting in more than 10 years, Indianapolis Metro Police Chief Randal Taylor said Sunday.
Childs is said to have murdered his relatives after his father chastised him for “leaving the house without permission,” according to court documents.
Childs is said to have shot and murdered his brother Elijah before shooting his father, Raymond Childs, Jr., and stepmother Kezzie Childs.
Detectives also found his deceased 13-year-old sister. Elijah’s pregnant girlfriend Kiara Hawkins was pronounced dead in a hospital, according to affidavits filed Thursday.
One murder figure includes Hawkins’s unborn child, who, according to a summary of the autopsy findings, was “nearly born.”
According to the prosecutor’s office, Raymond Childs III’s next trial is on April 21.
