India bans export of Covid Remdesivir amid virus overvoltage

India has banned the export of Remdesivir, used to treat Covid-19, as the country has recorded a record number of new coronaviruses daily cases.

The government took the step amid a sharp increase in demand for injection, the health ministry said in a statement on Sunday, adding that “there is a potential increase in demand in the coming days.”

Seven Indian companies produces Remdesivir under a voluntary license agreements with Gilead Sciences Inc. They have an installed capacity of about 3.9 million units per month.

The Government of India is also taking steps to reduce drug grabbing and blackmail and to expand drug production.
