Martha Stewart has accomplished many things during her career: she has written and written nearly 100 books on lifestyle, had several successful TV shows, and became the first female billionaire when her company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia , became public in 1999. That is to say a few.
And at 79, Stewart has no plans to slow down, even amid the pandemic.
“Thank heavens for the luck I’ve had, being able to continue to work and keep the people around me working and productive,” Stewart told CNBC Make It.
On Tuesday, Stewart, a well-known dog lover (he has two French bulldogs, Creme Brulee and Bete Noire and two chow chows, Emperor Han and Empress Qin) announced the launch of his CBD pet product line with Canopy Animal Health. (CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is one of many cannabinoids found in cannabis and hemp plants. However, it does not contain THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana.) Stewart collaborated with marijuana grower Canopy Growth in 2019 to develop derivatives of hemp. CBD products (for humans).
Stewart says she became curious about CBD after working with rapper Snoop Dogg (aka Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.), who is a well-known cannabis user.
“I am not a user of [marijuana]Stewart says. But she has been interested in exploring plant derivatives that are said to have health benefits, especially those that help sleep. Some studies have shown that CBD can be effective in relieving symptoms of anxiety, chronic pain and can help insomnia. Other benefits are anecdotal.)
Here, Stewart talks to CNBC Make It about her health and wellness routine, where she drives her vehicle, how she copes with stress, and the administration of the Covid vaccine.
CNBC Make It: What Ways to Relieve Stress? Are you meditating?
Stewart: Do you think a hyper person like me can meditate? No, I’m not good at it, but I like yoga. And it’s not relaxation; I do Iyengar yoga, which incorporates a bit of relaxation. [Iyengar is a form of yoga that focuses on alignment and can involve holding poses for longer periods of time.]
What else do you agree with when it comes to your health and wellness routine?
I drink green juice every morning. I have a vegetable greenhouse where I grow my spinach, celery and parsley. Even arugula goes into green juice and other types of hard salad. And then I buy organic cucumbers. Pomegranate juice goes in there too. But this is my green juice and it is an essential party of my daily diet because it really helps anti-aging. I don’t like the word “anti-aging” – I say successful aging. And it helps a lot with hair.
I [also] horseback riding. I was lucky to have my horses all this time [pandemic]. Outdoor activity is very good. Sitting inside, I don’t think it’s a good thing.
How do you use CBD?
I’m insomniac, and CBD Martha Stewart oil drops are so helpful. A dropper full of orange [flavored oil] or a dripper full of lemon …. I also like my CBD gums.
Where do you get your motivation from?
Definitely my curiosity. As in the case of CBD, my curiosity, which was initially ignited by Snoop Dogg. I mean, we did three seasons of our show, “Martha and Snoop Dog Potluck Dinner Party,” learning a lot about cannabis. I am not a cannabis user, but I was very interested not only in cannabis, but also in hemp and its derivatives.
I’m very interested in supplements … what will make you live longer, why it will keep your brain clear and why it will keep you active. These are the kinds of things I’m looking for, not the secret of eternal youth – I don’t take injections. But I try very hard to keep myself in as good a shape as possible for as long as possible.
What advice do you have for people who want to reinvent themselves?
Go. That’s what it’s about. Try. Give up the test, give up. It is always better to try, to try and to try.
I’m constantly trying new things. My new line of [CBD] Skin care is a new thing to me, but I’m so excited about it. It’s something I’ve been dreaming of doing for a long, long time. This will appear a little later this year.
I like to develop things and build things. I’m building a new house. But these are things that keep a young person, keep the interested one and keep a relevant one.
How do you feel after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine?
The vaccine was great. I look forward to it [second] shot next Monday.
But I’m sure I won’t give up the guard. We are very careful. There is no way you can let go of your guard, you can still be a carrier, and you can receive it.
But I feel a little safer for my own health and I will be very careful for the health of everyone else.
