This is despite the fact that various sources indicate that in Washington, the US government has closed its doors.
During the time of the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele had a turbulent relationship with the critical and independent media, which he accused of lying when he published reports unfavorable to his government.
On Thursday afternoon, however, the president expanded his attempts to disqualify journalistic reports and accused journalist Joshua Goodman of the International Associated Press (AP) of lying.
“We cannot trust the international media. For example, the AP said that I was in the United States to request a meeting with President Biden and that they denied it. This is a lie, here is the head of the United States missions and he can corroborate it, “the president said in a meeting with the country’s accredited diplomatic corps.

Earlier this week, Goodman reported that Bukele sought meetings in Washington DC with Biden administration officials and was rejected. According to the report published in the PA and taken over by several media inside and outside the United States, sources close to the new US government refused to meet with Bukele because of his seemingly undemocratic behavior and also to prevent him from using electoral meetings.
Sources in Washington DC from El Diario de Hoy, with direct knowledge of the Biden administration, confirmed information similar to those published by the AP.
This hit Bukele, who tried to present himself as a friend of Washington, but whose abuses of power lead to harsh sentences in an America that has changed a lot since Trump left power.
For this reason, he tried to discredit the AP report from the beginning. One of his closest officials, CEPA President Federico Anliker, even suggested that the Washington Post, which took over, had relations with one of El Salvador’s main opposition leaders.

Despite his attempts to disqualify this report and deny that it was not received by the Biden administration in Washington, Democratic Party sources support their original version and claim that the Salvadoran president is lying.
“The great student”
Mauricio Alarcón-Salvador is an Ecuadorian lawyer and defender of press freedom in his country and region. Every time Bukele discredits the national press, he reiterates that his style is very similar to that of former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, an enemy of the press when he ruled the South American country.
Faced with this disqualification of the PA and the international press, Alarcón-Salvador recalls that in his country, the then and now president of a fugitive Correa “was an expert not only in discrediting the national press, but also the international one.
Conspiracy theories have been frequently articulated, saying that the international press was obeying orders from foreign governments to destabilize its government.
The lawyer explains that he called some of the media hypocritical and liars. For this reason, he adds that “this student you have in El Salvador (Bukele) is beyond himself.”
In fact, Correa recently dedicated a tweet celebrating Bukele’s treatment of the independent media in El Salvador, which he constantly disqualifies and harassed by officials and fans, and state power has even been used to intimidate them.
