Former Kentucky star guard Immanuel Quickley continues to prove that it is, without a doubt, the theft of the 2020 NBA draft.

After an inconsistent start to the season, the New York Knicks rookie has scored double points in six of the team’s last nine games, including 31 points against Portland on January 24 and 25 points last night against Cleveland.

With continued production and growth for the 6-foot-3 guard, CBS Sports moved Quickley to 3rd overall in the NBA Rookie Power Rankings, behind James Wiseman in 1st and Anthony Edwards in 2nd.

Here’s what they said about the former Wildcat:

Quickley has become the lover of the beginner class this season and for good reason. His float has already been announced as the deadliest in the game and is one of the best pick-and-roll scorers in the league. In the last week he became only the second debutant of this season to collect 30 points in one game (former Kentucky teammate Tyrese Maxey is the other).

What’s more impressive about Quickley’s performance is that he did it from the bench. He is constantly proving his worth in this young Knicks list and, if he continues on this track, it will be difficult for coach Tom Thibodeau not to put him on the starting line.

“I saw her right from the first day she got here, the way she approached things,” Thibodeau said of Quickley’s 25-point performance on Friday night. “He is a student of the game, a great worker, a great attitude, an excellent approach. And the ups and downs of an NBA season, I think he is preparing very well and his confidence comes from his training.

“He has a great concentration, great efforts every day. And he can play well even when he’s not shooting well. Obviously, he has a lot of confidence in that shot and in his game from all sides. And he’s one of those guys who will continue to get better with each game. So very pleased with his progress. ”

When asked about his outstanding performance, one in which he knocked down five triples, Quickley said he attributes his hard work and dedication to improving every day.

“Hard work, dedication and respect for the process, which is improving every day, good games, bad games,” said Quickley. “You want to keep finding a way to improve every day.”
