The seven-day preliminary positive test nationwide between December 25-31 is 9.5%.

The test positivity rate is a value that the state began providing at the end of October. It is calculated using the total number of positive tests over the total number of tests. This is the metric used by state health officials to make mitigation decisions.

State-run COVID-19 test sites are closed Friday for the New Year holidays.

Indoor dining and bar service is still banned in Kane County under COVID-19 state mitigation rules, but some people have chosen to call in a New Elgin pub in the new year. Stanley Restaurant and Ale House defied state orders, offering food, drink, karaoke and habits – all inside – while trying to apply their own COVID-19 rules.

The owners said they were open for business inside, without any summons from the county or state in the last 10 weeks.
