Illinois COVID Update Today: IL reports 3,667 new cases, 87 deaths; Regions 8.9 move to level 1 mitigation

CHICAGO (WLS) – Illinois health officials reported 3,667 new cases of COVID-19 and 87 deaths on Tuesday.

This happened when Illinois officials announced that Region 8 (DuPage and Kane counties) and Region 9 (Lake and McHenry counties) had moved to Level 1 mitigations, allowing the table to resume indoors.

All regions of Illinois are now in either Level 1 mitigation or Phase 4 reopening, except for Region 4 near St. Louis. Louis.

The total number of cases in Illinois now stands at 1,108,430, with a total of 18,883 deaths since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the last 24 hours, the laboratories reported 69,285 copies for a total of 15,553,319.

As of Monday night, 3,001 patients in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of these, 608 patients were in intensive care and 320 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

The seven-day preliminary positive test nationwide on January 19-25 is 5.7%.

The test positivity rate is a value that the state began providing at the end of October. It is calculated using the total number of positive tests over the total number of tests. This is the metric used by state health officials to make mitigation decisions.

A total of 1,227,625 doses of vaccine were delivered to Illinois providers, including Chicago, with 537,050 additional doses allocated to federal government partners for long-term care facilities, bringing the total number delivered in Illinois to 1,764,675.

IDPH reports that a total of 719,995 doses of vaccine, including 110,403 at long-term facilities. The seven-day average of vaccines administered is 30,180.

Illinois now reports eight more cases of the new potentially more contagious variant COVID-19 first identified in the United Kingdom. So far, there has been only one confirmed case here. All nine cases are in Cook County.

IDPH says vaccine distribution numbers are reported in real time, and vaccine administration numbers remain at up to 72 hours.

With Illinois now in Phase 1B, people over the age of 65 and many essential workers are now eligible to receive the vaccine. It includes about another 3.2 million people.

The Illinois National Guard will help with vaccinations at Cook County Health Centers in half a dozen suburbs. There are several implementations planned throughout the state.
Officials said that starting Monday, those guard-backed sites will take 1 B appointments, as will pharmacies in hundreds of Walgreens, CVS and Jewel locations.

Walgreens provides vaccines at 92 sites across the country and appointments can be made on their website, while Jewel-Osco will begin vaccinating eligible residents on Tuesday, with appointments available on their website.

Governor JB Pritzker said there are plans to launch entry sites with flexible vaccine growth.

On Monday, Governor Pritzker and Cook County Council President Toni Preckwinkle visited the Tinley Park Convention Center, which is set to become a mass vaccination site.

Governor Pritzker has announced the creation of a new portal, coronavirus.illinois.gov, to provide the latest information on vaccines.
