A total of 1,635,925 doses of vaccine were delivered to Illinois providers, including Chicago, with an additional 496,100 doses allocated to federal government partners for long-term care facilities, bringing the total number delivered in Illinois to 2,132,025.

IDPH reports that a total of 1,294,498 doses of vaccine were administered, including 188,351 at long-term facilities. The seven-day average of vaccines administered is 49,909.

IDPH says vaccine distribution numbers are reported in real time, and vaccine administration numbers remain at up to 72 hours.

Chicago’s coronavirus testing sites will be closed for “bad weather” beginning Friday.

Test sites operated by the city will remain closed from Friday to Wednesday, according to a notification from the city.

Thursday’s storm will be followed by a deep frost that will last until next week. Temperatures may not rise above single figures, and wind chills can reach minus 30 degrees in what city officials have called an “arctic explosion.”

Anyone who needs testing in the next few days should contact their healthcare provider.

“Honestly, in terms of safety, we don’t want staff and volunteers to be exposed,” said Dr. Allison Arwady, CDPH. “And there are walking availabilities on the site. We don’t want people to climb.”

Frozen conditions also prompted Loretto Hospital on the West Side to move its walking tests inside.

“In fact, we are turning our ground floor physiotherapy room, which is quite large and very spacious, into a COVID testing area,” said Afya Khan, an infection control practitioner at Loretto Hospital.

The city’s inland vaccination sites will remain open, as will the mass vaccination site at Fairgrounds Lake County in Grayslake. Officials there said the need for frequent rotation of cold staff could cause delays.

Professor Hani Mahmassani of Northwestern University, an expert in transport and logistics, said vaccination clinics could see some shortcomings.

“There will be staff issues,” she explained, “and also no patient presentations. And in some cases, you do not want patients to go out at this time, especially for some older group people who are vaccinated. “
