Illinois COVID Update Today: IL reports 1,962 new coronavirus cases, 25 deaths

CHICAGO (WLS) – Illinois Department of Public Health officials reported 1,962 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 25 deaths on Saturday.

IDPH has reported a total of 1,220,432 COVID-19 cases, including 21,059 deaths, since the beginning of the pandemic.

As of Thursday night, 1,179 patients in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of these, 228 patients were in intensive care and 103 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

In the last 24 hours, laboratories have reported testing 77,661 specimens for a total of 9,558,920 since the pandemic began.

The seven-day preliminary positive test nationwide between March 13-19 is 2.6%.

A total of 5,341,895 doses of vaccine were delivered to Illinois providers, including Chicago, with another 414,900 doses allocated to federal government partners for long-term care facilities, bringing the total number delivered in Illinois to 5,756,795. A total of 4,631,122 vaccines have been administered in Illinois since Friday night, including 360,941 for long-term care units. The seven-day average of daily vaccines is 98,165 doses. 120,426 doses were reported in Illinois on Friday.

Sixty-five percent of Illinois residents aged 65 and over received at least one dose of vaccine, approaching the 70% target that could see Illinois enter the Bridge phase.

Double lung transplantation using lungs from a donor who previously had COVID performed at Northwestern

Northwestern medical surgeons performed a double lung transplant on a patient using the lungs of a donor who previously had COVID-19, the health care provider said Friday.

The recipient of the transplant is a 60-year-old Illinois man. He received lungs from a donor who had mild symptoms. The donor died of an unrelated accidental death and no longer had COVID at that time.

The patient works in the health field and was diagnosed with COVID-19 in May 2020 and suffered permanent lung injuries.

Illinois COVID-19 vaccine guidelines do not include phase 1B pot smokers; those who smoke cigarettes included

Illinois residents who smoke marijuana will not be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine earlier.

This decision was made despite the fact that cannabis smokers have a higher risk of respiratory problems.

However, people who smoke cigarettes or have smoked qualify for the previous phase.

-Cook County: 1 woman for 30 years, 1 man for 50 years, 1 woman for 60 years, 1 man for 60 years, 1 woman for 70, 2 men for 70 years, 1 woman for 80 years , 1 man of 80 years, 1 woman of 90 years, 1 man of 90
-Douglas County: 1 woman from the 90s

-Franklin County: 1 woman from the 90s
-Madison County: 2 women aged 70, 1 man aged 70
-McHenry County: 1 80-year-old man
-Mclean County: 1 woman from the ’90s
-Moultrie County: 1 woman over 100 years old
-Ogle County: 1 man of 80 years
-Sangamon County: 1 woman from the ’90s
-Sf. Clair County: 1 man of 60 years, 1 woman of 80 years
-Will County: 1 woman of 70 years, 1 man of 80 years
