Illinois COVID Update Today: IL reports 1,068 new coronavirus cases, 14 deaths

CHICAGO (WLS) – Illinois Department of Public Health officials reported 1,068 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 14 deaths on Sunday.

IDPH reported a total of 1,198,335 COVID-19 cases, including 20,763 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

As of Saturday night, 1,141 Illinois patients were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of these, 255 patients were in intensive care and 112 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

In the last 24 hours, laboratories have reported testing 68,094 specimens for a total of 18,640,190 since the pandemic began.

The seven-day preliminary positive test nationwide from February 28 to March 6 is 2.3%.

A total of 3,824,675 doses of vaccine were delivered to Illinois providers, including Chicago, with 443,700 additional doses allocated to federal government partners for long-term care facilities, bringing the total number delivered in Illinois to 4,268,375.

When will children be able to receive the COVID vaccine?

IDPH reports that a total of 3,358,214 doses of vaccine were administered, including 344,569 at long-term facilities. The seven-day average of vaccines administered is 98,183.

On Saturday, 98,550 doses of vaccine were given.

The first case in Illinois of a more contagious COVID-19 variant in Brazil was identified in a patient in Chicago.

Researchers at Northwestern Medicine said they first identified P.1. variant, which was first found earlier this year on trips from Brazil during an airport examination in Tokyo. The Brazilian version has since been found in several other countries.

Deaths reported on Saturday include:
– Cook County: 2 men 40 years old, 1 woman 60 years old, 1 man 60 years old, 1 man 80 years old
– Kankakee County: 1 man aged 60 years

– Kendall County: 1 woman aged 70
– Lake County: 1 man aged 70 years
– Livingston County; 1 woman of 60 years
– Madison County: 1 40-year-old woman, 1 60-year-old woman
– Massac county: 1 man of 70 years
– Peoria county: 1 woman of 80 years
– Will County: 1 man of 80 years
