So you’re saying there’s a chance?
John McClain, who has covered the NFL on the Houston Chronicle for more than 45 years, told SportsRadio 610 in Houston that Texans remain firmly behind the scenes in their public position about not defending quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Unless the Jets convince them otherwise. There is a warning that will make New York – and the rest of East AFC – buzz.
“It simply came to our notice then [the Texans] called Eagles, it’s not true, “McClain said. “If he changed it, it would be the Jets. No, they didn’t contact anyone about Watson’s trading. ”
McClain previously suggested that the Texans’ asking price would start with two first-round picks, two second-round picks and two defensive youngsters.
“I do not call teams. The teams call them, “McClain said. “They told everyone they weren’t trading Watson. It doesn’t mean they won’t do it in the end, but I guarantee you if they did, [it] it wouldn’t be for Carson Wentz and the Eagles. ”
Watson has a ban clause, so if Texans decide to change him, he could influence that destination.
If a highly speculated swap of a disgruntled defender for another disgruntled defender is off the table, then he leaves the Jets, Dolphins, Panthers, Bears, 49ers and Washington as the teams most likely fighting for Watson’s services.
The Colts seem to be the favorites to land Wentz if he is changed. Indianapolis would be an unlikely destination for Watson, as they are division rivals with the Texans.
