“I won the fight, it was very tough, the toughest of my life”: Toño Mauri

“It’s been eight months since I left home and I never thought it would take that long,” he said. Toño Mauri leaving the hospital after struggling with the complications Covid-19 caused on his body.

“It was very strong, but today I can say that I won the fight, it was very hard, the hardest of my life, but now I go home to see my children and my wife, my family, I am very happy.” said the actor when he was interviewed by staff from University of Florida.

Recognized for participating in soap operas as well “Malquerida”, Mauri gave positive results for coronavirus in June 2020 with other members of his family. His condition worsened until he was hospitalized and, as a consequence of his condition, he underwent a double lung transplant in mid-December.

In an interview with the health center of University of Florida (University of Florida Health), Mauri recounted the journey from her infection to her discharge from the hospital last Friday.

“I got here after I was in Miami in the hospital for 6 months … I was in a coma for three months, it all happened to me, it happened to me what they told me happened, they told them family that already … there was nothing to do and the next day I will recover and the doctors were surprised “, he said in a broken voice.

“So I went step by step until the time came when my lungs stopped working and a group of counselors came out of the hospital that this place was there and that I could come and try and that was my arrival here. It was the last chance I had, I met Dr. Pelaez, Machuca and the team of both of them, they always took great care of me with great affection, they were always very sincere with me and together we went through this transplantation ”.

Mauri was also grateful to the person who made the transplant possible; Although he emphasized that he did not know the donor, this experience led him to see the importance of organ donation.

“I want people to know that it is a valid option today, I am very grateful to the donor, because this person who donated my lungs, donated his liver, kidneys, gave life to other people and that creates the awareness of donations, that it is possible for us to save those lives, I’m very grateful, I don’t know who he is, but he’s definitely an angel, for sure. ”

In the audio shared by the University, Mauri says that the first thing she wanted to do when she got home was to hug her children and move on. In addition, as a survivor of Covid-19, he is convinced to share the message of care because pandemic.

“I want to convey to people to take care of themselves, that this is not a game, it is true and it all ends, that they take care of their family because those who suffer the most are the family and suffer a lot, so we must to think of everyone and we have to take care of ourselves and we have to follow the instructions they give us, to use the mask, to be careful not to go in places of many people, everything they ask us to do, it is very important because I did not go out and take care of myself and then he gave me We must take an interest and obey to take care of ourselves to take care of our family ”.

The soap opera actor as “Passion” and “The Privilege of Love” He stressed that God motivated him to continue the fight in these months, in addition to the fact that it is his strength. Mauri said he felt his presence very close.

“I asked him if it was his decision to accept it, but I want to see my children grow up and I want to live and for me God was my strength and I felt it. I asked him to take my hand and I felt how he took me and accompanied me and it is the biggest thing that happened to me, to feel God ”.

“I realize the things that are important, we waste time in a lot of nonsense, we take the value of others and this helped me realize that the most important thing for anyone is their family, those who always and always support you, friends, are things that they learn, I will change my life today and I hope to do well, I hope to live every day to the fullest ”.

Toño Mauri wants to help others by sharing his message and hoping that the public will see him as an example and will not go through what he went through, in this sense he shares a little of his healing process, which will take some time.
