Various institutions paid tribute today to Colonel Juan María Lora Fernández and other martyrs of the battle at the Hotel Matum, 55 years after the feat.
The activity was organized by the Permanent Commission of the Ephemeris Fatherland, the Lora Fernández Foundation, the Ministry of Defense and the Provincial Government of Santiago.
The representatives of these institutions placed a floral offering on the statue of the martyr He fell into action during the battle of December 19, 1965.
The words of the act were the responsibility of Lieutenant Colonel Juan Manuel Lora León, the president of the foundation and the son of the national hero.
In turn, the President of the Permanent Commission of the Ephemeris, Juan Pablo Uribe, presented a plaque of recognition to the President of the Matum Hotel, Ulises Polanco, for working to preserve historical memory and acknowledging support for the work of the Minister of Defense. , Lieutenant General Luciano Díaz Morga.
Uribe he emphasized the need to strengthen the values and ideals of democracy, solidarity, dignity, decorum, civility and courage, as Matum fighters demonstrated 55 years ago.
In that battle, an attempt was made to assassinate the leader of the April Revolution, Francisco Caamaño. and other important personalities, who traveled to Santiago to pay tribute to the founder of the constitutionalist movement, Rafael Tomas Fernández Domínguez, who that day was seven months after his heroic fall, in an attempt to assault the National Palace.
