Lurking in the fields and forests of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla they are immensely powerful beasts. The kind of animals that people tell stories about. Dangerous, deadly monsters that only a resilient, brave and probably stupid warrior could … Oh, wait, it doesn’t matter. He got stuck in the ground like an idiot.
Ever since he finished the main story of Valhalla and writing the review, I spent my time in the game running and completing side missions and collecting hidden equipment. Sure, I only pass things from a big checklist, but it’s a pretty good checklist and I’m having a good time doing it. Recently, I decided to start taking out the legendary animals that dot the map. My target last night was a big bear, the Beast of the Hills. According to a guide, is a bit difficult to find, because the bear only appears during the day in its underground hiding place. He also mentions that you need to find some blood and follow him back into the lair.
Or you can do what I did. I just traveled quickly near the place, ran towards it and, in the middle of a fight with some random enemies, I found the bear stuck in the ground performing a strange dance move.
I’m not sure what happened. At the moment, I didn’t even realize I was watching the legendary Beast of the Hills. I assumed it was just a random bear walking, stuck, and now it was going to be killed in an unworthy way. It wasn’t until I started attacking him that I realized he was really the bear of legend. A lot of questions came to my mind. How did he get here? Why dance? And should I even kill the poor creature while she shook what her mother gave her?

Legendary animals are usually dangerous enemies who can easily kill unprepared or even petrified warriors who make a few mistakes. So, being able to deal with a minor crime would be a great way to save some time and effort.
But it was right? I didn’t like it. I decided to hit him with the ax a few times to see if I could release him, at which point we could have a proper fight. A few ginger chops later detached from the strange settlement in the ground and rose to four feet like a normal bear, unnaturally huge. I waited for his attack, but none came. A few moments passed. I hit her again, thinking that maybe she needs encouragement to get worse after she got stuck in space-time for who knows how long. But not even a generous portion of the crowds managed to turn the magnificent beast into violence. So I sacrificed her where she was.
I felt bad, but I also worried that if I didn’t kill him, he might get stuck somewhere else and I would never be able to find him again. You know how many bears there are. Then, after I finished all the other checklists in this long obscene game, I would be left with only one legendary animal alone in the world, which makes it 100% official Valhalla. (Something that technically I will never do because the fishing in this game sucks, but focus on the principle here.)
Strangely, his murder yielded nothing: no reward or “complete mission “ Pop-up. Uh oh! Did I just break the game? Was this karmic justice? I decided to go into the bear’s lair because it was still marked on the map. Maybe the bear would breathe, angry at the first death. But instead, once I entered the underground area, the game gave me the kill, some rewards and I passed it off the map.
A sad death for such a noble creature. I guess he died the way he lived, dancing on the hills. I don’t regret what I did, but I feel a little bad. Sometimes I wonder … am I the real monster? The real legendary beast? Anyway, something to chew on while I go kill the rest of these furry bastards.
