I haven’t played Cyberpunk 2077, but it’s my favorite game of the year

Like many non-players, I experimented 2077. Cyberpunk especially through news articles and Twitter posts. And I have to say – this is probably the best way to experience it.

I mean, look – I’ve been hearing about this game for years, because a lot of my colleagues and friends are players. Everyone got all the hype! I had to delay the end-of-year package I was managing to fit it.

But almost immediately after launch, it existed drama: Sony took the game out of the store and started offering refunds! Microsoft also offers refunds! So is Best Buy and Game Stop! The employees of the game’s producer, CD Projekt Red, are revolting! If the file becomes too large, it will be corrupted and useless! An epilepsy warning! DMCA strike!

If there are two things I love, it’s drama and chaos, and the boy does it 2077. Cyberpunk offers both. There is this too, which I thought was a joke, but when I read the replies to the tweet, I realized it wasn’t a joke at all.

One of my friends bought it the day he went out and essentially went into a bunker to play it for a few days. He called it “a wonderful mess”, but also said that the weakest part is the fight and “AI is stupid as bricks”. Another person can’t finish Johnny’s secondary search and is very upset about it. Like, not ironically angry: she’s desperate like to meet Nancy at the gothic club, but the NPC she should talk to isn’t there. (Also, as a condition of using her story, she asked me to mention that Judy is her wife.)

Part of the surrounding drama cyberpunk it is objective not funny at all: overworked developers and stereotypes about trans people. Our sister site Polygon went so far as to post a standard disclaimer for every post about the game just because it exists so much it’s happening here.

Before release 2077. Cyberpunk, CD Projekt Red faced control of reporters for its work practices, especially in relation to the “crisis”, a term that refers to long overtime hours lasting weeks or months. Despite past promises to the contrary, the company has imposed a mandatory crisis on some employees. 2077. Cyberpunk they also faced criticism for its marketing – in particular, the use of a sexualized trans model in a promotional poster, as well as the freaking tone used in much of the game’s advertising and social media.

This thing is a fucking fiasco! My main option is that the people who will enjoy this game the most are people who know and love a lot of players, but they are not themselves players. And for us, the best part of the game is the mistakes.

We’ve collected some of our favorite issues in a group chat, and I’ll share them with you right now. Warning: Some of these aren’t safe for work.

(A note: when I shared the following clip in our group chat, one of my friends replied, “I know EXACTLY the intersection.”

I like this game. Please never fix the errors. Please also log in to your favorite errors in the comments.
