Nurse robs elderly couple after being falsely shot with Covid vaccine

A nurse, who sedated an elderly couple from Hyderabad with a fake vaccine against the Covid vaccine and stole 80 grams of gold jewelry, was arrested, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Saturday in Lalitha Nagar, under the border of the Meerpet police station of the Rachakonda police station.

Defendant Anusha was arrested on Sunday, hours after the couple filed a police complaint.

K. Laxman, 80, a retired government employee, and his wife Kasturi, 70, complained to police Saturday night that the nurse cheated on them on behalf of the Covid vaccine.

Anusha, who is taking a nursing assistant (ANM) course at a private college and was earlier a tenant near Laxman’s house, approached the couple with an offer to arrange doses of Covid vaccine for them. When they agreed to take her, she came to their home on Saturday at 3 pm and gave them a dose of Laxman and Kasturi.

“Before we gave up, she told us we would be drowsy for a while. We don’t know what happened after that, but when we woke up late in the evening, we found that we had been robbed,” Kasturi said.

Kasturi realized that the mangalsutra, the gold ring, the ear rings and the foot rings were all missing, all weighing about eight sheets.

The couple immediately approached the Meerpet police station and filed a complaint. Police have begun an investigation and settled the case with the arrest of Anusha.

Police investigations showed that Anusha and her husband knew the victims because they used to live in rented accommodation in their neighborhood. The young couple later moved to another area.

The accused and her husband were facing financial problems and she decided to target the old couple because they lived alone.

Police have advised people not to believe those who promise to organize the Covid vaccine, as the vaccine is not available on the open market and only health authorities are authorized to administer the vaccine. At this stage, the vaccine is only given to health workers and first-line workers in different departments dealing with the pandemic.
